LOVAZA® Benefits

How LOVAZA® Is Thought to Work:

While the exact way LOVAZA® works is unknown, it is thought to work in two ways, by:

  • Decreasing production of triglycerides in the liver
  • Reducing triglycerides in the blood

Additionally, research has shown that the Omega-3 fatty-acids EPA and DHA, when taken in proper doses, can help the body regulate common pro-inflammatory proteins in the body, such as IL-1. High levels of IL-1 have been linked to multiple diseases, such as arthritis, Crohn’s disease, Lupus, and other autoimmune illnesses. (15)

How To Tell If LOVAZA® Is Working:

Your doctor will determine whether LOVAZA® is working for you with a blood test, called a lipid profile. This test will check your triglyceride level. The way to tell if LOVAZA® is working is by seeing your triglyceride level decrease. In some patients, LDL (bad) cholesterol levels may increase when taking LOVAZA®. Your healthcare provider should do blood tests before and during treatment to check your triglyceride and cholesterol levels.

Be sure to schedule regular appointments with your doctor to get your blood tested and to track your triglyceride number. Ask your doctor for your triglyceride number each time you get a lipid profile.
